Dhaka Drama stages ‘Abibhakta’ in US

The United States-based Bangladeshi artistes of the theatre troupe Dhaka Drama has staged a production based on Liberation War titled Undivided in Bronx, New York in the US. Based on the story of the Liberation War in exile through interactive theatre, the second performance of the play was staged at an event titled Victory Festival organised by Hridoye Bangladesh.

The play, directed by Golam Sarwar Harun and Gargi Mukherjee based on a docu-novel by Hasan Ferdous, highlights the role of expatriates living in New York in Bangladesh’s struggle for independence. It also reflects an attempt to investigate the root causes of the current political instability in Bangladesh. The script has been adapted by Golam Sarwar Harun. Laila Farzana, an artiste of the play, told New Age that the audience enjoyed the play with rapt attention.

‘As it was an interactive play, the distance between the performers and the audience was eliminated, and everyone seemed to become one,’ she added. Golam Sarwar Harun, Ejaz Alam, Pratima Sumi, Laila Farzana, Basunia Sumon, Ripon Rahman, Md Kajol, Monir Hossain and Sajjad Rahman Khan have portrayed different roles in the production.
